Hard to believe but Hyundai is coming off their most successful month on US soil ever!!! Sales volume was 60,467 vehicles up 47% with Accents and Elantras leading the way. Also in the news, Hyundai Group (which includes Kia) rose to the number 4 spot, passing Ford. Not to shabby for one of the newer players in the game. They may be newer to the scene then some of the others but they have a lot of exciting products coming down the line.
The highest card in Hyundai’s hand is their new upcoming Sonata codenamed “YF” which will be introduced as a 2011 car, and of course, manufactured in Montgomery, Alabama (as well as other places for the rest of the world). The car was styled at Hyundai’s Irvine, California, studios, though it is uncertain how much of the development work was done at their Ann Arbor, Michigan, engineering center.
This car is Hyundai’s biggest seller in North America, and it is the bread and butter of the line, competing with the heavy hitters of the industry, including the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Nissan Altima and Chevrolet Malibu, among many others.
Another thing that Hyundai is talking about is the upcoming Sonata Hybrid using new lithium polymer batteries. The technology is not copied from either Honda nor Toyota, but is to use Hyundai’s self-engineered six speed automatic transmission with a powerful motor-generator between the transaxle and the direct-injection four cylinder engine
All in all its an exciting time to be a Hyundai owner and a Hyundai Dealer.
